How many of you have seen a Beardsley original?

I recently made an appointment at the drawing study room of the MMA in New York City. They have three Beardsley works; "Rejane" and two title pages for "La Morte D'Arthur". It was truly amazing to see these in person. There are many erasures and out-of-lines drawing that you can't see in the printed works. Princeton and Harvard have two of the best collections in the U.S., but sadly their collections are off-limits to the public. I'd love to hear about anyone else's experiences seeing Beardsley's work up close. It was a truly amazing day for me, having been an admirer or his work for over 25 years.

Hey Beardsley peeps.

I was at this huge house party a few weeks ago and ran into a girl wearing a Beardsley dress.

The fabric had misc. Beardsley prints all over. It was really cool.

Has anyone seen beardsley fabric for sale?

How did you learn or hear about Aubrey Beardsley?

For me, I had a friend in college who had an oversized coffee table book featuring his work. I couldn't put it down, so she gave it to me. I've been a fan ever since.

I just wanted to say hello since I'm new here. I have fond memories from my days as a student librarian in an arts library, flipping through the naughtier selections of Beardsley prints when I should have been shelving books. I have no regrets.

I'm thinking about creating some kind of Beardsley-style tattoo (for my first tattoo). I'll post pics as soon as I can get around to it.

Hello everyone. I'm mostly into 19th century painting and a painter myself and this is a little out of the box for me. My fellow Repin, Zorn and Sargent admirers and colleagues would probably be a little surprised to find I really dig Aubrey Beardsley (or would they?). I like art with a little bit of a dark side to it and his design is amazing. Glad to have found this group.

Starting my goal of cleaning & re-organizing my environment (yes, heading for the garage) I began at the top of my wall of books hoping to put away at least some of the 3x6 table piles of books, & I found An Aubrey Beardsley - The Story of Venus & Tannhauser or Under the Hill - which was written & illustrated by him. It is not an original but published in England, 1974.
It is a reproduction of the 1907 version, which was a compilation of the Savoy serialization but a complete unexpurgated one privately published.
Interestingly, the hero is remarkable look alike for Oscar Wilde who Beardsley was supposedly not on good basis with at the time, & a drawing of himself leashed at the ankle by a long silk ribbon to a satyr statue.

Hello.

Nice to see you new peeps. This is a new tribe, so you are really the founding members.

Thanks to Sandrine for uploading a few photos to the gallery. I changed the main photo over your favorite, Lysistrata Sheilding her Coynte.

If anyone has Beadsley related images--by all means throw them up in the peanut gallery.

Anyone want to chime in with their favorite piece by Beardsley? (or top three?) Explain why or don't.

I had to flip through my book to settle on one I'll start it off--I dig The Stomach Dance.

Hello and welcome to the Aubrey Beadsley tribe. You don't have to be an artist, or art history major to belong here. You simply need to be interested in Beardsley's work.

It would be great if you have news about a showing of Beardsley's stuff or an article--to post it here for the group.

Free range discussions about Beardsley. Enjoy.
